Thank You
This morning, right on schedule, I made my way to the far stall in the men’s room to take care of business. While on the can, I pulled out my wallet and realized I still have a lot of cash (over $300) from a recent gift from my parents (for actually finishing school). I’ve been meaning to put the cash in a safe place but keep forgetting - so I made yet another mental note.
Over an hour later I was sitting in a meeting when Hugh walks in, motions to me and whispers, “there’s a man at the front desk with your wallet.” I immediately pat my leg and remember that it must have been left behind. Panicked, I ran to the front desk where 2 men were standing, one said “are you Paul Mayne?”, YES! Thank You, Thank You, Thank You! Then the other man said to me, “you are very lucky” then gave me a look like, I saw how much cash you have in there.
Losing the Cash would have sucked simply due to the timing. I never carry that much cash unless I’m on vacation or visiting my dealer (joke). The major loss would have come from the credit cards, debit card, library card, drivers license, Ahh Sushi Membership card, Costa Vida frequent Diner card, and many other misc. cards I have in my thick George Costanza wallet.
I was in too much shock to even think about giving them a reward. I wish I would have slipped them a $20 - but I know they will be rewarded with good karma for a very long time.
Thank you Mr. Union Pacific Railroad men - you stink up the bathrooms every day, but I’ll never complain again.

Great story. That means that those railroad men had to end their telephone call, zip up, pick up the walet…wash their hands…and walk all the way over to the front desk. A lot of effort to give someone else a few hundred dollars, if you ask me.
Such is the legacy of the Union Pacific - Building America since the 1860s.
