Classical Mystery Tour
Last night we attended the Classical Mystery Tour Pops Series at Abravanel Hall. It’s a Beatles tribute band backed by the Utah Symphony orchestra and man was it cool. These guys were on, at least from where I was sitting they looked almost exactly like John, Paul, George and Ringo. The voices of course were not as great as the real Beatles, but still pretty darn good.
Being a big fan of the Beatles music it was fantastic to hear the songs live, especially with a talented orchestra. They even played my favorite Beatles song, “I Am the Walrus” which is full of orchestral parts.
A couple more photos of the show on flickr.
Speaking of the Beatles, I recently heard about a new Beatles tribute album being released called “This Bird had Flown” featuring many artists that I really like; Sufjan Stevens, Ben Kweller, Ben Harper, Fiery Furnaces. There is a site up that streams sample songs and so far, with the exception of a couple songs I almost agree with Broomeman when he says:
Pure crap! Don’t go anywhere near it.
